Draft Cheney 2012 Launches “Write-In Dick Cheney” Campaign for CPAC 2010 Straw Poll

Christopher Barron, Organizer – “Conservatives can send a strong message about the future of our party by writing in Dick Cheney’s name in this year’s CPAC straw poll.”

(Washington, DC) – Today, Draft Dick Cheney 2012, a 527 organization, launched an effort to encourage attendees of the 2010 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) to write-in former Vice President Dick Cheney in this year’s CPAC straw poll. “Conservatives can send a strong message about the future of our party by writing in Dick Cheney’s name in this year’s CPAC straw poll,” said Christopher Barron, one of the organizers of the Draft Cheney movement. The center-piece of the draft Cheney movement is the website www.draftcheney2012.com. “The 2012 race for the Republican nomination for President will be about much more then who will be the party’s standard bearer against Barack Obama, the race is about the heart and soul of the GOP and there is only one person in our party with the experience, political courage and unwavering commitment to the values that made our party strong – and that person is Dick Cheney.”

Recent polling has confirmed that former Vice President Cheney would be among the front-runners in the 2012 race, should he decide to run. A poll of 2003 self-identified Republicans nationwide shows Cheney as one of only three potential 2012 candidates whose support registered in the double digits. Cheney trails only former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. “Those results were even more powerful when you consider the fact that almost every other potential candidate named in this survey has been actively testing the waters for a 2012 run,” continued Barron.

Momentum for a potential candidacy by Cheneny continues to pick up steam. “The Obama administration is playing a dangerous game of Russian-roulette with the safety of Americans at home and abroad,” said Barron. “He has refused to stand up to the tyrannical Iranian regime of Ahmadinejad, failed to confront the brutality of radical Islam, and is bringing the mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks to New York for a dangerous show trial.”

“The more people see the naïve and dangerous policies of this administration, the more momentum will build for the experienced and committed leadership a Cheney Presidency would bring,” continued Barron.

While Cheney will not be speaking at CPAC, the Vice President’s daughter, Liz Cheney, will be addressing CPAC on Thursday at 12:30. “We hope to have a strong contingent of Draft Cheney supporters in the room during Liz Cheney’s speech,” said Barron.

“We urge the grassroots conservatives who will be attending CPAC to join us in sending a powerful message about the future of our party, by writing in the name of the only person with the experience and conservative credentials necessary to lead our party in 2012 – write in Dick Cheney,” concluded Barron.

(Washington, DC) – A new Daily Kos/Research2000 poll shows that former Vice President Dick Cheney is among the frontrunners for the 2012 Republican nomination for President. “This poll confirms that former Vice President Cheney would be a formidable candidate for President in 2012,” said Christopher Barron, an organizer of Draft Dick Cheney 2012, a 527 organization formed to convince the former Vice President to seek the GOP nomination for President in 2012.

The poll of 2003 self-identified Republicans nationwide shows Vice President Cheney as one of only three potential 2012 candidates whose support registered in the double digits. Cheney trailed only former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. “These results are even more stunning when you consider the fact that almost every other potential candidate named in this survey has been actively testing the waters for a 2012 run,” continued Barron.

Poll Results (full results available at here)

Palin 16%

Romney	11%

Cheney	10%

Huckabee 7%

Gingrich 7%

Pawlenty 3%

Paul 2%

Thune 2%

“Vice President Cheney is the one Republican capable of uniting our party, and the one Republican with the experience and commitment to conservative values that would enable us to win the White House in 2012,” concluded Barron.

In Washingtonian “inside the Beltway” terms, the most amazing aspect of former Vice President Dick Cheney’s new clout is that he is achieving it the old-fashioned way: talking about public policy. He is not running for President or any other office. He has not formed a PAC or a D.C. lobbying firm. He is not dishing on former colleagues, not spreading gossip, not settling scores. He is, instead, writing a memoir about his extensive career in public service, and giving occasional speeches and interviews, mostly on national and homeland security policy, long his central focus.
